The Big News

The moment you’ve all been waiting for!! On June 19th, 2023 Aidan, the man I found on Instagram two winters ago, road-tripped across the US with, and flew to South Africa for asked me to be his wife.

I love the man and want to spend the rest of my life with him, so of course, I cried and was overwhelmed! It took me about 2 minutes to say yes.
I wasn’t expecting it to happen for another few months. We talked about having a 9-month engagement and getting married in the Spring of 2024. But you know how the plans of man are.
The night before, I had a dream about him proposing. Yeah, I’m not kidding. God has a sense of humor. That morning when I woke up, I asked Him what He wanted to speak through it. I heard Him say to my heart, “He will propose to you, don’t worry. You will be surprised and it will happen in my timing.” Little did I know that evening it was going to go down.

I am a huge fan of our story and maybe I’ll write a book about it someday, so for now let’s just say that seeing the man of my prayers drop on one knee in front of my eyes overwhelmed me. God really cares about relationships and this day proved yet again that to be true!

November 2023 - Aidan and I will get married

We plan to continue with YWAM Lancaster for as long as the Lord leads. I believe there is significance in us being in missions together, especially in Lancaster County during this time. So that is where you will mostly find us, with the occasional short-term missions trip here and there.

God is moving in Papua New Guinea

My outreach to Papua New Guinea definitely did not go as planned, not even one bit.

I’ll start by picking up where I left off. The last time you heard from me I was still waiting for my visa along with eight others on my team. We continued to wait for our visas for five days into the trip. We got “stuck” in the Philippines until they came through. But during that time we continued to believe that God would get us to PNG.

The Lord taught and grew our team to trust and find Him in deeper ways amidst the unknowns and uncertainty. Though our team was split into two for most of the trip, native tribes received the Bible and heard the Gospel for the very first time! We saw the Father to be faithful in revealing Himself to the people of PNG despite our circumstances.

We had the opportunity to travel to 4 villages either by boat or by truck distributing Bibles and preaching!

Papua New Guinea is home to 853+ entirely unique languages and is a destination YWAM is committed to distributing Bibles due to the lack of translation of the scriptures in their languages. Most are oral languages with no written languages ever created. We were able to hand out SD card audio bibles that villages could put into simple phones and listen to the Word of God. For those that didn't have phones, we had small solar-powered speakers with the Bible on it that we gave them.

WOW! This is such a big deal!! A people group and nation having the Word of God is so crucial to seeing transformation and reformation.

As well as a few printed Bibles and approximately 10 proclaimers.

We went to 4 different villages

Malas, Mirap, Korak, and Ulifun

10 people gave their lives to Jesus!

We rejoice over all the seeds planted, the Bibles distributed, and the new names written in the Book of life. Thank you Jesus for your Spirit that continues to draw new brothers and sisters into the family.

Testimonies

Written by Aidan Sommers - “The guy pictured above is named Willy. He approached me asking for a paper copy Bible in his language because he didn't have a phone. His mother language hadn't yet gotten translated into the Bible. He asked if I had a Pigeon bible. Pigeon is one of the national languages widely used in PNG. We didn't have those, but I was able to give him a proclaimer and encouraged all the kids around us to meet at his house and listen to the Bible with him. Willy is one man among thousands in villages across PNG who haven't yet been able to read scripture in the language that they grew up with.”

Here is a testimony of a revelation the Lord gave to Micah, one of the guys on my team: "I was asking the Lord why He would send us halfway across the world to do a job the local believers could do. The Lord began showing me the purpose of missions is no different from anything we do in our lives: KNOWING GOD. Missions is pointless if my life is not consumed with the glory and wonder of Jesus and with falling more in love with Him. We don't hand out Bibles in PNG because we're some anointed missionaries, we do it because we are lovers sent out by Jesus to find Him in new ways. I have found Jesus in ways I never would have found Him in America. Jesus showed me that we are meant to be lovers first, and from that place we submit and obey. It's through our obedience that He transforms nations."

^ This was a huge takeaway for me as well as many on my team! It’s finding Jesus that is the prize and the reason we do what we do.

YWAM Lancaster Family

In June the staff spent a week in West Virginia, enjoying the beauty of God’s creation, lots of games, food, and connecting as a community. Every single one of these people I find more and more to be a blessing because of their hunger for God and pursuit of holiness. It encourages and challenges me to run after the heart of God and prioritize His presence, above all else, even ministry.
